Nestled in the foothills of the Pare Mountains, south of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest peak is the village of Malindi, Tanzania. With a population of 3,000 and a per capita annual income of $325, the residents struggle to meet the basic daily needs of their families.
Friends of Malindi was formed to support the efforts of Plant With Purpose, a San Diego based non-profit NGO that works in Malindi with these villagers by providing training in organic farming, micro-finance and reforestation. Through the efforts of Friends of Malindi, Plant With Purpose and the resilient people of Malindi, lives are being changed.
Plant with Purpose volunteers join over 65,000 people at the 2010 Earth Day celebration at Balboa Park in San Diego. And Malindi Coffee is there as well.
